The Yucatan is officially a part of Mexico but as it is somewhat isolated from the rest of Mexico, it has its own unique culture. I doubt if there is anywhere on the planet that has a higher percentage of cement tile floors per capita. In Merida they refer to cement tile as "pasta tile" or "paste". Merida also has the third largest "Colonial" historic district of a Latin country. While many of the old Colonial houses are unoccupied or chopped up and rented out, there is a strong movement for individuals with means to come in and totally restore these once glorious homes. So go on a photo journey with us to the Yucatan to see floors of Merida and surrounding areas and be inspired by the incredible, colorful "Pasta Tile" (as they are called there).
