These are 4" square Glazed Zellige tiles (100x100x11mm). Made by hand in Fez, Morocco, these are authentic Zellige (zellij), produced with the traditional clay, using kilns fueled by olive pits. These Moroccan mosaic tiles are perhaps the most famous of Moroccan handicrafts.
Friendly Reminder: Zellige colors have high variation, so one sample tile may not fully reflect the tones of a full box. A single sample is meant to show the finish, thickness, edges, and color mood. We've taken multiple photos from different batches to help set accurate expectations.
As a hand-crafted product, the opportunity to order custom Zellige is limitless. From custom shapes and sizes and a host of colors, let us produce your bespoke Zellige installation. Our artisans can even produce and layout elaborate mosaics, arranged and glued to mesh mats for easier jobsite installation... just ask us for details. The minimum order for a custom Zellige mosaic is 75 square feet. Lead times typically range from 6 to 16 weeks, depending on the shipping method selected, including air freight, express UPS, or sea transport.

Zellige Checkerboard Backsplash in Cottage Kitchen Reno
Pulled back to reveal the full room, this view showcases the full scope of Addison's Wonderland's vision — a Farrow & Ball Pigeon island anchored by a soapstone top and flanked by walnut-and-leather counter stools draws the eye through the space toward the Meringue and Oyster Shell zellige checkerboard backsplash beyond. A wrought iron candelabra chandelier descends through the botanical wallpapered ceiling, while a deep violet arched doorway punches through the floral pattern with a bold chromatic counterpoint that only heightens the room's sense of considered daring. Every element — from the stainless refrigerator tucked in Pigeon cabinetry to the artichokes in a woven pedestal bowl — reads as deliberately chosen, a hallmark of Addison's Wonderland's signature approach to maximalist design with genuine editorial restraint.
Zellige Checkerboard Backsplash with Open Shelving | Cottage Kitchen Sink Wall
The sink wall of this Addison's Wonderland cottage kitchen showcases the full interplay of the Meringue and Oyster Shell zellige checkerboard against Farrow & Ball Pigeon cabinetry and honed soapstone countertops — the three materials working together in a quietly sophisticated tonal harmony. A floating natural wood shelf bridges backsplash and wallpaper, styled with a curated mix of artisan ceramics and trailing greenery, while a hobnail vase of garden roses at the farmhouse sink and a raffia table lamp add warmth and lived-in charm. Brass sconce hardware and the arched violet doorway glimpsed at left anchor the room's signature blend of historic cottage character and confident maximalist layering.
Zellige Checkerboard Backsplash with Floral Wallpaper
This wider perspective reveals a new layer of Addison's Wonderland's design story — a warm terracotta linen drapery panel at the right, framed by a raw wood beam, introducing an earthy softness that balances the room's botanical maximalism with unexpected warmth. The Meringue and Oyster Shell zellige checkerboard reads at its most luminous from this angle, the natural light from the centered picture window illuminating the hand-glazed tile surfaces and casting the Farrow & Ball Pigeon cabinetry in its softest, most silvered tone. Dual floating wood shelves styled with artisan ceramics, a hobnail vase of garden roses at the farmhouse sink, and a raffia table lamp complete a composition that feels simultaneously designed and effortlessly inhabited.
The tactile beauty of handcrafted zellige is on full display here — each tile's hand glazed surface catching light differently, creating a quietly animated checkerboard that no machine-made tile can replicate. Styled with a floating natural wood shelf, a round turquoise ceramic board, and a classic blue-and-white porcelain vase against the sweeping botanical wallpaper, this vignette captures the layered, collected quality that defines the Addison's Wonderland approach.
