Plaster and Patina

Alex Azat is the founder and principal of Plaster & Patina, a celebrated interior design firm known for its sophisticated, historic home renovations across Southern California. Born and raised in New York to immigrant entrepreneurs, Alex brings a globally inspired, East Coast-rooted aesthetic to her work. As a USC business grad and former finance professional, Alex began her career in event production and florals, before shifting to interiors after renovating her first historic home. Her style blends timeless elegance with modern sensibility, earning praise from Architectural Digest and brands like BVLGARI. She is known for her sophisticated aesthetic and meticulous attention to detail, which allows her to navigate and deeply understand her clients’ style while incorporating her old-world yet timeless touch. Alex resides with her husband and their two sons, Beau & Brooks in a rental home. They are currently in the process of rebuilding their Altadena home, which was tragically lost in the Eaton Fires.

PASADENA SHOWCASE HOUSE PRIMARY SUITE

The bathroom features a stunning exposed vanity, with a walnut and brass palmer vanity paired with curved sconces. Both the vanity and shower feature a rich honey onyx as a finishing touch to the space. The tiles, designed in collaboration with Villa Lagoon Tile were meticulously placed and feature a black border and texturally interesting encaustic cement tiles and clay zellige tiles. The closet plays with color, using a rich, natural clay-toned red and a mural of a hunt scene in the back – a nod to Alex’s love for equestrian elements in her design.

CAMILA

This 1970's home underwent a full renovation by Plaster & Patina, brought to life with passion and attention to detail. Our tiles were featured throughout the stunning kitchen and primary bathroom. Alexandra selected the Glazed Zellige Mosaic Mat in Meringue for the shower floor and the arched alcove above the sink. The primary bath floor showcases our Bejmat Natural Unglazed Zellige. For the kitchen, Alexandra, designed a custom colorway in bronze tones, using our Luqa Cement Tile.

FLORENCE

Alexandra filled her personal home with an abundance of charm and coziness. She artfully featured the tile in the kitchen, breakfast nook, and mudroom, where the classic star and cross motif came to life through our Comino Black & Alabaster Cement Tile.

In her beautiful studio bathroom, natural light pours in and brings the space to life with a soft, luminous glow of our Glazed Zellige Mosaic Mat in Iceberg.

Tragically, this beautiful home was lost in the California fires, a heartbreaking loss. Alexandra is already creating a new space to call home, one that will be just as inviting.
