Villa Lagoon Tile's Breeze Blocks are a modern improvement over the screen blocks of mid-century modern architecture. We have applied our years of engineering the best cement tiles to producing a much higher grade product than existed before.
Villa Lagoon Tile's "Kauai" Breeze Block features a square and two rectangles.
Unlike with many other products, our special order breeze blocks have no extra markup. Essentially, all breeze blocks are hand-made. We pioneered the online in-stock experience to overcome the only difficulty of custom tile: production time. If your project doesn't require your tile for 10-14 weeks or more, and your project is over our special order minimum, custom order may be right for you.

Atmospheric Daylighting: Strategic Solar Shading at Nashville's Donelson Library
This interior study of the Nashville Public Library - Donelson Branch illustrates the "Celestial Falls" atmosphere achieved through clever architectural screening. By utilizing the Kauai Breeze Block as a primary sun-shading solution, HASTINGS Architecture and Messer Construction Co. created a space that celebrates natural light without the drawbacks of solar glare or excessive heat gain. The rhythmic shadow patterns cast upon the polished terrazzo floors serve as a visual bridge to the library’s Mid-Century Modern roots, providing a serene and thermally comfortable environment that supports the facility's LEED Gold Certification. Large-Format Breeze Block Framing at Donelson Library
This detailed perspective reveals the sophisticated structural integration of the Kauai Breeze Block at the Nashville Public Library - Donelson Branch. The image highlights the technical precision required to mount a large-scale masonry screen within a modern steel and glass envelope. Constructed by Messer Construction Co. and designed by HASTINGS Architecture, this vertical screen is not merely decorative—it is a self-supporting architectural element that provides critical passive solar shading. The crisp, white cement finish of the blocks contrasts beautifully with the dark metal mullions and deep roof overhangs, embodying the "restrained material palette" that defines this LEED Gold-certified civic landmark.
Rhythmic Shadows: Bioclimatic Light Filtration in the Donelson Library
The interior of the Nashville Public Library - Donelson Branch showcases the transformative power of the Kauai Breeze Block as an interior design element. By filtering the harsh southern sun, these architectural screens create a dynamic "shadow play" across the library’s polished flooring, turning a functional solar barrier into a living piece of art. This application, executed by Messer Construction Co. and designed by HASTINGS Architecture, exemplifies the LEED Gold commitment to natural daylighting while maintaining thermal comfort. The interplay between the industrial ceiling textures, minimalist seating, and the geometric precision of the breeze blocks creates a serene, high-design atmosphere for the Donelson community. Bioclimatic Comfort: Indoor-Outdoor Connectivity at the Donelson Library
This interior perspective of the Nashville Public Library - Donelson Branch highlights the seamless transition between high-design interior spaces and the building's LEED Gold-certified envelope. The Kauai Breeze Block screen, visible through the expansive floor-to-ceiling glass, acts as a functional architectural "veil." By diffusing direct sunlight before it hits the curtain wall, the screen significantly reduces solar heat gain while maintaining a clear visual connection to the urban landscape. Designed by HASTINGS Architecture and built by Messer Construction Co., this reading area exemplifies how a "restrained material palette" of glass, steel, and masonry can create a bright, thermally stable environment optimized for community engagement.
